Short summary: Using demonstrations and live activities, award-winning scientist and science communicator Pete Vukusic will describe how the discipline of bio-inspiration is leading directly to new technologies and devices and is shedding light on photonic scientific wonders of the natural world.
Short bio:
Pete Vukusic is the Professor of BioPhysics at the University of Exeter. He spent his student days at a school in South London, and at Exeter University and Imperial College. Since 2001, Pete formed and leads the Biological Photonics research group at Exeter, the aims of which are to understand biological strategies at work in the manipulation of light and colour, and the creation of the appearances of animals and plants.
Pete has been communicating science to students and adults in the UK, the EU, the US and across Africa since his early days as a teacher in schools. He was the former Institute of Physics Schools Lecturer and is a Royal Society, a L’Oreal and a British Association awards winner for science communication.
